Focused Attack (Clank! Legacy: Acquisitions Incorporated)

Another night of a Clank! Legacy and another wild and unique experience! We played the same strategy we've been playing for quite a while, but again, things did not turn out the way we expected! We're nearing the end of our campaign (I'm trying not to give away exactly how many games there are) and so the steaks are high. Brennan has won like 60% of the games thus far, so Stirling and I are playing catch up. Or, at least, we're playing to try and stop Brennan from winning. Here is the aftermath of our garage gaming session. If you don't want spoilers, don't zoom in, but I doubt you'd see anything anyway. Except maybe you could count how many chips were left in the bottom of Brennan and Stirling's bowls. As much fun as it is to be in charge of shuffling every deck, moving every piece, adding in every secret, it'll be nice to not have to do EVERYTHING anymore. Brennan is an ER nurse, so he's playing it pretty safe in terms of contact with others, so it could be a little while still.
So what happened to make this session so wild and unique? Well, let me tell you!

First of all, at the beginning of the game we found out that once we made it to a certain threat level, we could get rid of all the Clank! in the Clank! area. Well, the strategy we've been using (only buying static cards and none of the market ones) would allow us to put off putting any Clank! in the bag for quite a while! If we played it right, we could make all the Clank! we wanted up to that point and then have it all wiped away! Coincidentally, another goal of the scenario had us wanting to increase the rage level anyway, so those two goals tied in quite nicely together. We work as more-or-less a team for the first half of the game, so we did the same this time and we made it happen! We were deep in the dungeon and reclaimed all of our Clank! - not a single colour was in the bag! Our delight didn't last long, however.

It was at this point that we started buying market cards and dragon attacks began to happen. Well, due to all of our rage level increases, there were six cubes being drawn each attack. After only a few turns, every one of the black dragon cubes was out of the bag. That meant that every single Clank! we made would instantly turn into an attack on us on the next dragon attack. Whoops. An unintentional consequence.

I mentioned to the team that I was trying to head to the very bottom of the map to try and do something cool. Not trying to say they couldn't race me there, but just a warning. Brennan, who somehow always seems to have a million movements each turn, decided to race me. His million movements to my one allowed him to get there first and do the cool thing. Dang.

That's ok, though. I grabbed and artifact and started heading for the surface. We all knew that things weren't looking great in terms of dragon attacks. It was actually even worse than what you'd expect, although I can't explain why (no spoilers!). We all knew that we could easily get attacked A LOT each dragon attack - each attack would be focused directly on each of us.

I have no qualms about racing for the exit and that's just what I did. I have some cool powers that give me a leg up on my opponents when it comes to escaping, so I made use of every single one of them. The dragon attacks came fast and furious after that. Stirling was able to make it out of the depths but Brennan, because he had raced so deep to beat me to the cool thing, did not. Another game of zero for him. Stirling has 84 and this guy had 91. That's two wins in a row for Thalgot Rockforge, the small-in-stature-but-not-in-spirit dwarf of the group (don't worry, the picture is right from the cover of the box - nothing from in-game here!).

Brennan dying with zero points again was a little sad, but I need to remember that he's also won six games and I've only won three now. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, or in this case, a dwarf-eat-halfling one. Our campaign is almost done and I hold no false hopes that I've done enough to overcome Brennan in the final game scoring. All of the things that I'm guessing and assuming are worth points at the end of the campaign he either has more or the same as me. My only chance is if his zero point games drag him down a little bit.

I'm excited for us to finally be done so I can write a full review for this one. Can you guess if it'll be negative or positive based on my thoughts so far? I'm such a closed book...
