Transportation Planner (Playthrough of Railroad Ink: Blazing Red Edition)

Bert Grundleson couldn't screw this up. He had begged and begged his boss for the chance to be the transportation planner for the new town of Macmontham. He was well aware of the fact that he didn't deserve this opportunity, that his boss had only relented because of his special ability to be incredibly persistent and obnoxious. But that didn't matter! He was given the job and if he made it work, this could be his (train) ticket to the top!

After weeks of planning, it was time for the project to get underway. Engineers, architects, construction workers, everyone was hired and on-site.

BOOM!!!

What was that?

A meteor just exploded into the ground, less than a hundred metres from some tracks and roads.

"What on earth?!?" Bert screamed, as those same engineers, architects, and construction workers ran for cover. He followed behind them as he pulled out his phone and called his boss.

"Mr. Smythe! A meteor just struck the ground near the building site!"

"Mhm," replied Mr. Smythe.

"It just exploded right beside us...why are you so calm? People could have been killed!" Bert screamed back at him, ducking behind a pick up truck.

"Well, you see, meteors are common for this area. You've heard of tornado alley? Well this is located right in the middle of meteor aisle. Something about extra gravitational pull there or something. You wore your steel-toed shoes, right?"

"Wait...you know about this? Why didn't you tell me?"

"Sorry, you're cutting out. Must be all the toxic debris. Let me know how it goes if you live!"

Bert sat there for a while with silence on the other end. As another meteor hit shook the earth, he dove to the earth. How was he going to salvage this? He had been set up! There had to be some way to turn this around. Stumbling through the wreckage and the dust clouds, he peered into one of the craters created by a meteor. A glittering glow winked back at him - the remains of the meteor was crusted in what appeared to me valuable minerals. This was chance at redemption. He would show Mr. Smythe that he could take lemons and turn them lemonade. Or, take meteors and turn them into profits.
