To the Rescue (Playthrough of Flash Point: Fire Rescue)

Tom, Phil, and Anita arrived at the scene of the fire as quickly as possibly. It had been a slow night but when the alarm went, they were ready. They were a good team and worked to each member's strengths. Phil had an uncanny ability to suppress fires with ease. Anita's long hours in the gym had paid off as pulling people out the building usually fell to her. Tom balanced both of them out and was able to do a little bit of everything. As they pulled into the subdivision, neighbours lining the streets watching the fire grow, they realized they hadn't gotten here a moment to soon. They leaped out of the truck and burst into action.

Tom thought he heard screams from the back of the house, so he started there. He used his ax to chop through the back wall and found himself in the bedroom, surrounded by flames. Phil followed closely behind and made quick work of the fire.

In order to spread their help around, Anita stayed near the front of the house. She heard someone pounding on the wall and was able to open up a hole to haul them out without injuring them. As soon as she pulled the victim out of the house, the living room exploding in more flames.

After making sure the young woman was safe, Anita wasted no time getting back into the inferno and looking for other survivors. Unfortunately, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Something exploded in the bedroom she was in, blowing both her and the victim in her hands clear of the building. A third person was left in the room, just out of reach.

Tom, unaware of the life threatening state that Anita was in, burst into the kitchen, thinking he had heard someone calling for help from in there. It turns out he was wrong - precious seconds were lost.

Nothing was going the firefighters' way. The fire damage caused a gas leak that ignited.

Anita would not stay out of the action. The paramedics tried to hold her back but she tore out of their arms and raced back into the blazing building. She was sure there had been another person in the room she was just in. She was mistaken. As fire seemed to engulf the entire house, she pressed forward, checking each and every room, finding someone in the bedroom and pulling them out of the hole that Tom had originally made in the back.

The flames and smoke play tricks on your senses, making you think you see or hear someone amid the flickers and haze. Tom found himself in the living room - false alarm.

At this point, the house had been weakened to such a state that the foundation was beginning to shift. The resulting shift was the last straw for the house. A final detonation shook the house to its core and it collapsed upon itself, right atop the firefighters and victims still inside...

...until Superman zipped in and saved them all just in time?

I know it's just a game, but it's not some distant fantasy world fighting orcs and goblins. There's a heroic firefighter - Brad - living right across the street from me. Losing seems a lot more somber in this game. I wish I could send Superman out to keep Brad safe.
